The statue of St. Nicholas the Traveler was placed in 1998 and its author is Mladen Mikulin. St. Nicholas the Traveler is the patron saint of Baška Voda, sailors and passengers, children and unmarried girls. With the raised hand of his bronze statue, St. Nicholas blesses all who come to Baška Voda, all who travel, including all the tourists. The feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated on December 6th with Holy Mass and a procession along the waterfront and through the town. Baška Voda’s captains and sailors carry a statue of the saint in a procession during which the ships and sailors are blessed from the main pier.
Zdenko Runjić (1942-2004), for many the greatest composer, arranger and Croatian show music song writer, found peace in Baška Voda, where he stayed in his summer house, walking along the waterfront in the company of his friends from Baška Voda and relaxing both body and soul, charging his creative batteries. His greatest collaboration was with Oliver Dragojević but he also collaborated with numerous other famous Croatian musicians. Lorence Ferich (1954, Split) is an independent artist and photographer living between Baška Voda and New York whose night life is given a unique perspective and is a constant inspiration and theme of his work. Ferich’s works were published in different magazines and publications all over the world, such as: Newsweek, Time, Photo, Hola, Epoca, L'espresso, Europeo, Inreviu, Elle, France Dimanche, Le Point, Panorama etc. He has held independent and group exhibitions in Croatia and in the USA as well as around Europe. SMILKO RADIĆ SMILJAN, poet, composer and musician, was born in Baška Voda, and his career of a musician took him to Zagreb, where he was a member of the Opera Orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre, the Symphony Orchestra of Croatian Radio and Television, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and smaller wind orchestras, and his art of playing the horn has led him around the world and has made him cross paths with many famous conductors and soloists, such as:Lovro von Matačić, Boris Papandopulo, Pavle Dešpalj, Lorin Masel, Luciano Pavarotti, Mira Pospiš, José Careras and many others.
He has turned his inspiration by his native town Baška Voda and Dalmatia, his homeland, love, God and man into several collections of poems and many songs, which were performed by excellent singers and various traditional a cappella groups (cro. klapa), winning many prizes at the Festival of Dalmatian Klapa Singing in Omiš, among which are the seven first-place audience awards and the first place award for the best lyrics.v
